September 16-20, 2013

Hi Parents! It has been another great week in the FA classroom! The students are really starting to get the hang of our new classroom routines and expectations. We have also worked really hard this week on assessments that will help me know exactly how to implement a curriculum program that is individualized just for your child. They have really blown me away with their willingness to work hard and to show what they know! Next week will be filled with lots of learning and digging deep into our curriculum and goals. Please know that we will be conducting a "Drill Day" on Monday. Information went home on this last week. Please remember that we have Fall Pictures on Wednesday, September 25th. You will want to be sure to dress your student up for this day so that they will look extra snazzy for their pictures. Please return all order forms for pictures on this day. Our students will take pictures at exactly 7:50 (we get to be first!), so they are sure to look fresh! You may send a change of "school" clothes in their backpacks for them to change into after pictures if you would like. Also, if you have not gotten your students Medical Release form filled out yet for Special Olympics (only if you have received an email stating your child needs one), please get that in as soon as possible. We will be going to competition on November 5th. I hope you have a relaxing and wonderful wet weekend!!!! Hugs, Mrs. Bell

September 9-13, 2013

Hi Parents! We have had a great week this week. It has been super exciting and crazy getting used to our schedule and all of the different transitions happening during the day. This week I have worked on gathering data to get us off to a great start academically for the new year. Next week we plan on starting and implementing spelling into our routine as well as homework being sent home.

There is a small change in the homework expectations. I will send homework home on Tuesdays and it will be due the following Monday. That way students have the weekend to work on it . I think this will give them (and you) more time to ensure that the work gets done since our evenings often are filled with sports practices, therapies, dinner, baths, family time, etc. Please remember that this year homework is an expectation for our classroom. I would also like to remind you that homework will be at an independent level. This means there should be no reason that you as parents will need to help them. Please feel free to help explain directions if needed and to get them going on it but that should be all that they need. If they are needing more help than this, please let me know and we can change the expectation for your child. I know every child and every need is different.

I would also like to remind you that next Thursday  is our bowling practice field trip. Please make sure that your child wear socks to school on this day. They will not be able to bowl without socks. We also ask that a snack be sent with your child as well as a small water bottle for the field trip (labeled please!).

Also, we do LOVE our parents and our parent chaperones but we ask this year that we limit parent chaperones and spectators to ONLY competitions. We have 3 teachers to help out at bowling practice and this is a time for your child to enjoy working alongside their friends without parental supervision.

Lastly, picture day will be September 25th so please mark your calendars!

Have a super weekend!

May 13-May 17

Hello Parents!

It was a wonderful busy week in our classroom this week. Just because the end of the school year is winding down, that doesn't mean our learning is! We keep right on trucking along with our goals, new lessons, guided reading, and spelling.

Even though we are continuing to work hard in the classroom, it has reached that time of year when all guided reading books are due back to the library! That means that this was the last week for sending home leveled reading books. We will go to the library and check out books today but this will be our last trip to the library to check out books for this year.

Next week is our Little Elm Special Olympics Track Meet on May 22nd! This is going to be such an exciting time for us. Please remember to dress your child for the weather today and to apply sunscreen to them before coming to school. They will need a disposable nonrefrigerated lunch on that day. Also, please make sure that they were tennis shoes and socks since there will be a lot of running happening! Again, we do not need chaperons this time since all of our students will have an individual buddy but you are welcome to sit in the spectator stands and cheer for us!

Also next week, Friday May 24th is a bad weather day so we will not have school on Friday or the following Monday (May 27th). Yay for a 4 day weekend!!!

May 6- May 10, 2013

Hello Families!

I first want to take a moment to say thank you to you for the amazing outpouring of love that you have shown to Miss. Fabozzi, Mrs. Stewart, and myself this week! Teacher Appreciation week was amazing for us and we totally enjoyed all of the goodies that were heaped upon us this week. We definitely feel loved and appreciated by all of you! We feel so very blessed that you have entrusted us with your kiddos and we feel honored to have that privilege.

This week our writing focus was on acrostic poems and using describing words to complete these poems. We had a great time brainstorming words and ideas with one another. We took it one step further and used our skills for our Mother's Day gifts! What a fun and entertaining time that was, so if your kiddo comes home with "interesting" describing words to describe mom, well now you know why. Here were two of my favorites:
R-real "she's a real person"
and
E-eggs (she cooks them)

Upcoming Events:

April 30-May 3, 2013

Happy Friday!

It's been a great week this week. On Monday our students had the day off while the teachers planned for next year's vision and goals for our school. Our students have worked hard this week in the classroom. Today we will be heading to the library for our Book Fair preview as well as participating in Jump Rope for the Heart.  Please be on the lookout for your child's wishlist that will be coming home today from the Book Fair.

As mentioned, next week is our Book Fair week. We will be going to the Book Fair on Friday to purchase books so please be sure to send your child with money for books! More details about purchasing will be coming home today so please make sure to look in their FROG binder for this as well. Also next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. A yellow paper was sent home this week that described gift ideas for your child's teachers. If you were planning on sending in gifts for your student's teachers, please remember that they have three teachers in our classroom: Mrs. Bell, Ms. Stewart, and Miss Fabozzi as well as their general education teacher.

Also next Friday the 10th is our Annual Family Fun Night from 6-8pm! Flyers have been going out about this fun event. Please mark this on your calendars for a fun night of food, friends, and fun!

IMPORTANT Upcoming Events:
May 6-10 Book Fair and Teacher Appreciation Week
May 10- Family Fun Night
May 17- Picnic Party (FA Classroom...more details to come)
May 22- Special Olympics Track and Field Little Elm

April 22-26, 2013

Whew! What a week this has been!

Our STAAR testing is finally over in the building and our students couldn't be happier. Testing brings a lot of changes to our schedule and we like our routine! :)

Overall though, our kiddos have had a great week. We have continued to work on goals this week and we were able to get in a little more time with them this week which makes for a very productive week! We also celebrated Miss Fabozzi's birthday this week which the kids loved! We enjoyed cupcakes and ice cream with her. It was quite a treat!

Today I will be sending home a permission slip for Special Olympics Track and Field in Little Elm that will be on May 22nd. This is quite a treat for our kiddos because each student will be paired with a "buddy" from Little Elm High School to walk around with them, take them to their events, and spend an awesome day with them! Due to the buddy system that Little Elm treats us with, we will not need any extra chaperones for this field trip. Of course you are welcome to come as a spectator and watch your kiddos from the stands.

As a reminder, there will be NO school on Monday, April 29th. Next week we have Jump Rope for the Heart so be sure to get pledges in! On Friday we will have a preview look at the Book Fair coming the following week so be sure to look for your child's "wish" list as well as the classroom "wish" list in their FROG binder on Friday.

Upcoming Events:
May 6-10                                             Spring Book Fair & Teacher Appreciation Week
May 7                    8:30am                 Kinder Kid Tour

April 15-19, 2013

Hi Parents!

It has been a long time since I have posted on our classroom website. It seems that classroom life has gotten so busy and our poor little blog got left on the back burner. But now we are back and hopefully will be for the rest of the year at least. Next year I am looking at a different way to get our weekly updates out to you...maybe starring your child. It is sure to be a fun time!

Did your child come home and tell you about our fun "Clean Teeth Club"? This week we started a fun little club with all of our classmates to really focus on keeping our teeth brushed, clean, and healthy. We are also really emphasizing that brushing our teeth should be done independently. Meaning Mom and Dad, you are off the hook! You no longer need to have responsibility for brushing and cleaning your child's teeth...it is their responsibility! (Although, they will probably need morning and nighttime reminders!) We are working on teaching them how to brush ALL of their teeth as well as keeping their tongues clean and fresh! Each student has their own individual toothbrush, toothpaste, and little bag to keep their things in. They are really enjoying this great club!:)

We have had several birthdays the past couple of weeks. April is a busy month for us on the birthday front. Please remember when you send in birthday treats that they should be store bought and individual in size. That way there is no messy cleanup from plates, knives, forks, etc.

Next week our campus will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday to visitors due to STAAR testing in the general education classrooms (ours is done...yippeeeeeee!)

Upcoming Events:
May 6-10: Spring Book Fair. An amazing selection of books is headed our way! At the Book Fair you will find the latest and greatest titles for kids, as well as books of interest to parents. Mark your calendars for our two special events. Our lunch event will be on Wednesday, May 8th, and our book fair will be open late on May 10th for our Family Fun Night Event. We will need lots of volunteer help before, during and after the fair with decorating, set up, helping kids select books, and packing up. Go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0C44AAAC2AA64-book1 to sign up to be a volunteer. See you at the Book Fair!
May 6-10: Teacher Appreciation Week. We have lots of great things planned for our awesome teachers and staff. There will be many ways to help and to show your appreciations. Right now we are collecting glass vases to use for teachers' floral bouquets. If you have some extras hanging around the house, we'd love to have them. Just drop them off in the PTA room before May 1st! Keep an eye out for a flier in your child's folder with all of the Teacher Appreciation Week plans! If you are interested in helping out (or would like to donate items for a giveaway,) please contact Jami Clifford at hospitality@carrollpta.org.
May 10: Family Fun Night. Family Fun Night is fast approaching. Mark your calendars for May 10th starting at 6pm. The PTA is so appreciative of all the support we have received from parents and family members this year so admission will be FREE. That also means all the games, entertainment and most activities will be free. We will be selling Carnival type food for a minimal price and $1 tickets. The tickets can be used for the raffles and dunking booth. More information will be coming in the next few weeks. We look forward to seeing all of you this year.

Have a great Friday evening and a wonderful weekend!!!
